Hoelen is a fungus that grows on pine tree roots. It has diuretic properties; Chinese herbalists use it to drain dampness. In Japanese Kampo medicine, the fungus is used to promote urination. Gastrodia is a traditional Chinese herb that is useful in modulating exuberant yang of the liver and calming internal wind.
